WASHINGTON-CUNA had planned to open its highly touted Credit Union House on September 11, but terrorists had other plans. Instead of a `grand opening,’ CUNA held a ceremony for its credit union league investors November 7. The 8,300 square foot building located at 403 C St., NE Washington, D.C. will be used for a reception area for credit union leagues and their congressmen, a meeting place for credit union officials, and a physical reminder to lawmakers of credit unions. Already the House has been used for a number of receptions and CUNA’s postponed Annual General Meeting. The top floor is most impressive, boasting a large reception area with plasma screens and a view of the Capitol building. The project was budgeted at $2.4 million. All 50 state leagues and the D.C. league donated funds toward the building. CUNA also ended up purchasing the adjacent building, which is currently being rented out by the Sierra Club.
