CUNA Mutual Group, Madison, Wis., has awarded Excellence in Lending Awards to Denver Public Schools CU, CSRA Federal CU, Air Academy Federal CU, and Alcoa Employees & Community CU. CMG, with support and expertise from the CUNA Lending Council, established the Excellence in Lending Awards to recognize credit unions that have implemented superior lending programs while demonstrating sound financial performance. The award provides an opportunity for credit unions to share best practices and ideas, build networks, and recognize and celebrate lending excellence. Denver Public Schools CU and CSRA Federal Credit Union received awards for consumer lending achievements. Likewise, Air Academy FCU and Alcoa Employees & Community CU were recognized for their mortgage lending accomplishments. 1st City Savings Credit Union, Glendale, Calif., Board Chairman James D. Likens has been presented the Leo H. Shapiro Lifetime Achievement Award, which is the highest award in the California credit union movement. The Shapiro Award is presented each year by the California Credit Union League in recognition of a lifetime of excellence, leadership, and dedication to the credit union movement. The award is named for Leo H. Shapiro, who is revered as the "father of the credit union movement in California." Likens was recognized in large part for his 20-year tenure as President and Dean of Western CUNA Management School. Chetco Federal Credit Union, Harbor, Ore., has awarded Linda Matlock a Sapphire Award. This award recognizes that Matlock has successfully completed all requirements as part of the CUNA Management Enrichment Training Program.
