Michigan reps receive CULAC contributions

WASHINGTON-September seemed to be the month for Democratic lawmakers from Michigan to dip into the Credit Union Legislative Action Council’s (CULAC’s) war chest. Representatives James Barcia and Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (on the Appropriations Committee) each received $2,500 from CULAC, while Congressman Bart Stupack was awarded $2,000. Other top money getters last month included House candidattes newcomers Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) and Mike Michaud (D-Maine)and Representative Bob Barr (R-Ga.) on the Financial Services Committee, for $5,000 each. Four thousand dollars also went to Congressman Spencer Bauchus (R-Ala.) of the Financial Services Committee and the Democratic Leaders Victory Fund (Minority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.)). In all, CULAC spread $111,839 throughout Capitol Hill during September, totaling close to $869,938.28 for the year so far. At the same time, CULAC took in over $81,000 in September, setting total receipts approximately $9,000 above year-to-date disbursements. CULAC began the month with nearly $330,000 in cash-on-hand and ended with just under $300,000 in the coffers at the close of the month.
