Point Loma Credit Union, San Diego, Calif., has raised $5,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Members were able to contribute to the campaign by purchasing balloons at each of the 10 area PLCU branches. Balloons were then displayed in the branch lobbies. All proceeds went directly to the Children’s Hospital. San Diego County Credit Union, Calif., has raised over $13,500 for the March of Dimes. Through a SDCCU sponsored Walk America Sneaker Sale campaign, members purchased paper sneakers for a $1 donation. The March of Dimes funds research of birth defects. SDCCU has over $1.5 billion in assets. Community Federal Credit Union, Plymouth, Mich., has pledged a total of $5,000 from the Community Shares program’s new deposit growth to educational programs in communities the CU serves. Funds will be split between the following programs: $1,400 to Plymouth-Canton Education Excellence Foundation, to purchase globes for every classroom in the district; $800 to Northville Educational Foundation, to support children’s education in Northville; $700 to Gaylord H.S. Technology Fund, for the school’s computer lab; $700 to Gaylord High School’s Mentoring Program for at-risk students; $700 to Hillman School’s PALS Mentoring Program; and $700 to Johannesburg-Lewiston Community Schools. Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., has raised over $4,000 to benefit the American Heart Association. Sixteen credit union employees generated pledges for the two-mile HeartWalk. In addition, funds were raised through a barbeque luncheon and other events. Proceeds from the HeartWalk are used by the American Heart Association to educate the public, research cures and develop rehabilitation programs. Langley Federal Credit Union, Hampton, Va., has raised $2,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network, a charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospitals. LFCU raised funds by selling State Quarter Collector’s Kits at twelve branch locations. To date 750 Collector’s Kits have been sold. United Teletech Federal Credit Union, Tinton Falls, N.J., has raised $1,000 to benefit children treated at children’s hospitals affiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network. UTFCU staff sold paper Miracle Doves and some candy to raise funds. CMN is an international non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for 170 affiliated children’s hospitals. UTFCU has $221 million in assets and serves more than 28,000 members. New Hampshire Credit Union League, Litchfield, has donated $61,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Management and staff of New Hampshire’s credit unions teed off to help grant the wishes of terminally ill children during the 7th Annual New Hampshire Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament. Five-year old Make-A-Wish Child Hannah McGinnes was on hand to help receive the check. New Hampshire credit unions are the largest supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union, Daleville, Ala., has donated the proceeds of the credit union’s 11th annual Member Appreciation/Charity golf tournament to the Army Emergency Relief Fund. The fund is used to provide financial help for soldiers facing emergencies. On hand to accept the donation was Fort Rucker Chief of Staff Wayne Sears. AACFCU has $363 million in assets and serves 78,256 members.
