Indiana Credit Union League, Indianapolis, has held a breakfast to celebrate a 63rd birthday for Dan Burton, Republican Congressman from the 6th District. A longtime friend and supporter of credit unions, Burton was joined by Millie Cox, League Vice President for Governmental Affairs and Indiana Credit Union League President and CUNA board member, John McKenzie. Burton was the first Hoosier, and the sixth Congressman to cosponsor H.R. 1151. Box Eklder Credit Union, Salt Lake City, has announced that Branch Manager Maury Bergman and State Rep. Eli Anderson (D-1) rode atop a wagon bearing the “Hometown Credit Union” logo during the Days of ’47 Parade. Commemorating the entry of pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, the parade is one of the largest in the nation. The fictitious “Hometown CU” sparked controversy earlier this year in ads where the credit union remained the same while the bank next door frequently changed names. Power 1 Credit Union, Hialeah, has turned 50 years old this year. To celebrate the golden anniversary, members were invited to participate in the festivities with special direct mail promotions and advertising on the credit union’s portal Web site. Power 1 serves approximately 40,000 members and has $260 million in assets.
