I appreciate publisher Mike Welch sharing his personal perspective on the September 11th tragedy in one of his recent weekly columns. Like your publisher, I also was stranded. I was in Seattle for three extra days and shared his anxiety. I also experienced the compassion of fellow travelers, all of whom were emotionally touched by the recent events. One of our board members, Charlie DiMercurio, was in Germany at the time of the attack, and our credit and collections manager was in Spain. Both returned home with touching stories of the compassion shown by our friends in other countries. I especially appreciate Welch’s column because he acknowledged the fact that for that period in time, none of this credit union “stuff” that we read about and sometimes argue over, seemed very important. The tragic events, as horrible as they are, did kind of put things back in perspective for a lot of us. It’s a shame it takes an event like that to remind us what is really important in our lives.
