In Mike Welch’s publisher’s column, “Time to look closer at thrift conversions”, he states that he doubts if credit union members understand what they are asked to be voting for. As the CEO of a credit union that has converted to a thrift, I can assure you that our membership, although of different opinion than Mike Welch, is not a bunch of nave and uneducated fools. Our members did discuss the pros and cons of a conversion and were clearly aware of the differences and consequences. As a subscriber and reader of Credit Union Times, I expect more from publisher Welch. To doubt our members competence does not only cast a shadow on them, but all credit union members as well.
