FORT WORTH, Texas – Since Aug. 31, 2001, the Texas Credit Union Department has approved 29 applications from OmniAmerican CU to add select employee groups to its field-of-membership. The $627-million CU is showing no let up in its FOM expansion plans. Last month, OmniAmerican filed four applications with the Department to add geographic communities to its FOM. The four counties-Parker County, estimated population 88,000; Hood County, estimated population 58,000; Wise County, estimated population 49,000; and Johnson County, estimated population 122,000-are considered rural areas and are contiguous to Tarrrant County, one of the five largest counties in the state. Harold Feeney, commissioner of the Texas Credit Union Department said his office will make its determination on OmniAmerican’s latest round of FOM expansion applications based on whether the credit union can provide quality service to the additional potential new members without adversely affecting the CU’s current FOM. OmniAmerican’s applications were published in the September 30th issue of the Texas Register. They are currently out for a 30 day comment period. Feeney expects to make his decision on the applications by the first part of November. OmniAmerican has approximately 189,000 members.
