CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There’s a new credit union in town that wants to help Hispanics here – Latino Community Credit Union. With more than 500 robberies of Latinos reported last year, the Durham-based credit union has targeted Charlotte for its latest branch. LCCU has a bilingual staff and materials are available in both English and Spanish. In addition, the credit union will offer a financial literacy program to introduce members to mainstream financial services and help reduce the incidence of crime against the Latino community. The branch is a collaborative community effort of such organizations as Bank of America, Foundation for the Carolinas and El Centro Catolico Hispano, a catholic center here. A grand opening ceremony will be held on Monday October 15.
