VIENNA, Va.-Navy Federal Credit Union announced that it anticipates contributions from members, employees and companies to its disaster relief efforts related to the September 11 tragedies will top $500,000. As of September 26, Navy collected more than $200,000 from members via the Internet, walk-in, mail, and phone contributions. Navy Federal employees contributed over $35,000 in a one-day, credit union-wide fundraising event called `Navy Federal Employees Unite Day' held on Friday, September 21. Employees participated in bake sales, car washes, craft sales and other fundraising events. In addition, Navy and its subsidiary, Navy Federal Financial Group, have made a combined $235,000 corporate contribution to be distributed equally between the Pentagon Disaster Relief Fund and the American Red Cross.
