Republicans get largest contributions from CULAC for August

WASHINGTON-According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports, CUNA put most of its large donations from its Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) toward Republican candidates last month. House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) was the top money getter with contributions totaling $8,000. Additionally, the Majority Leaders Fund received $2,000. Other top Republicans to receive funds from CULAC include Congressmen Gary Miller (R-Calif.) for $5,000; Cliff Stearns (Calif.) for $2,500; Steven LaTourette (Ohio) for $2,000; and John Shadegg (Ariz.) $2,000. The only Democratic candidate, House or Senate, to receive a contribution of $2,000 was Senator Carl Levin (Mich.). Republican Senator George Allen (Va.), also a top money getter from CULAC received $2,000. CULAC started the month with $346,926.31 in its coffers and ended August with $328,531.17 on hand. Total disbursements from CULAC were $130,097.37, while the PAC took in $111,702.23. CULAC has taken in nearly $800,000 since the beginning of the year and has made $758,099.28 in contributions so far in 2001.
