Dupaco Community Credit Union, Dubuque, Iowa, has awarded $500 scholarships to five high school seniors. The Tri-State-Area College Scholarship winners are selected based on their academic achievements, extracurricular involvement and interest in the pursuit of an advanced degree. In addition, the graduating seniors must attend any one of seven Tri-state-area accredited colleges as incoming freshmen. The following students have each been awarded $500: Joshua Althaus; Jennifer Deutmeyer; Jennifer George; Jerrett Klar; and Marie Wiederholt. GTA Credit Union, Atlanta, Ga., has awarded a total of $2,000 in scholarships to three deserving seniors. Winners were selected based on need, academic achievement, community and school involvement, and letters of recommendation from teachers or school administrators. This is the eighth year scholarships have been available to outstanding students. This year’s award recipients are Whitney Dykes, Meagan Spradlin and Melanie Black. GTACU has $8.5 million in assets and serves 2,600 members. Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union, Calif., has awarded one $2,000 scholarship and eight $1,000 scholarships to young members between the ages of 17 and 22. The recipients were selected based on GPA, extracurricular activities, scholastic awards and achievements, community involvement and a written essay. This year’s essay asked “Intimidation and violence on our school campuses have been increasing recently. What do you believe is the source of this problem and how would you address it?” First place went to Sommer Kashowitz and Excellent Achievement awards were distributed to Lauren Barnes, David Kanzaki, Kelly McIntosh, Thomas Zamora, Stacy Jacobellis, Jessica DeBord, Almease Davis, and Susan Anderson. Western Division Credit Union, Williamsville, N.Y., has awarded six $500 scholarships to high school seniors. Applicants were judged on their academic performance, extracurricular activities, community service, leadership positions, honors and awards. This year’s recipients include: Adam Sima; Ashley Nosek; Carrie Wright; Kimberly Puleo; Nicole Wilkolaski; and Elisabeth Knott. Western Division Credit Union has over $70 million in assets and serves over 12,000 members.
