SAN FRANCISCO – Barry L. Jolette, CUNA vice chairman and president/CEO of the $420 million San Mateo Credit Union, Redwood City, is expected to move into the top elected post in CUNA later this month at the annual CUNA Symposium and annual meeting here. Jolette, a former NCUA regional director, is reportedly unopposed for CUNA Chairman and would succeed David Maus, president of Public Service Credit Union, Denver, who is not running for re-election. Filling Jolette’s vice chairman’s job would be Richard Ensweiler, president of the Texas Credit Union League. It would be the first time in years that an industry staff executive would step into the CUNA chair and follows new CUNA succession rules that allow such a move. Maus said he decided against seeking re-election “in the spirit of renewal” giving others in the CUNA hierarchy a chance to move ahead. He said Jolette is eminently qualified for the job “and has the full confidence of the CUNA Board.” The CUNA election is slated for Sept. 24 during the Symposium held at the San Francisco Hilton. Jolette, who has headed the suburban San Francisco CU since 1987, “has the full confidence of the CUNA Board and is the logical choice” for CUNA Chairman, said Maus. Jolette worked for NCUA for 19 years, serving the final four years as Regional Director of the Western Region.
