RALEIGH, N.C. – Watch out predatory lenders- GE Mortgage Insurance and the North Carolina Minority Support Center are teaming up to educate residents here. Sixteen minority-owned credit union affiliates will receive 20,000 GE "Get the Facts" informational flyers to educate consumers about predatory lending practices and the community resources available to them. Designed and printed by GE Mortgage Insurance, the flyer is part of a new initiative to combat predatory lending and is supported by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. GE and the City of Durham piloted the program late last year, with approximately 70,000 Durham households receiving the "Get The Facts" flyer along with their water bills. The 16 affiliated credit unions serve 23,000 people in 37 counties in the state.
