NEW YORK – The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions plans to hold its fourth National Faith-Based Credit Union Conference in Birmingham, Ala., Nov. 9-11. The conference will be targeted not only at community development credit unions, but also at the broader group of faith-based CUs. Faith-based CUs represent more than a third of the membership of NFCDCU. According to NCUA estimates, there are approximately 500 credit unions of this type in the U.S. At press time, NCUA Acting Chairman Dennis Dollar had been confirmed as a keynote speaker. Other confirmed speakers include the Rev. Dr. Robert Franklin, president of the Interdenominational Technological Center in Atlanta, Ga. and a former program officer for the Ford Foundation. The conference is open to credit unions of all types, as well as groups looking to organize credit unions and those interested in community development with a faith-based focus. NFCDCU’s first National Faith-Based Credit Union Conference was held in New York City in 1992. Subsequent conferences have been held in Cleveland, Ohio (1994) and Nashville, Tenn. (1996).
