I read Mike Welch’s column in the July 25 issue, “NAFCU conference almost covers all the bases.” It was so timely for my work with the Combined Council of Automotive Credit Unions. Their meeting is in September. I so agree with Mike’s perspective in that everyone seems to skirt any controversy during such meetings. The CCACU does give prominent positions to holding group discussion with both leaders in their group of Councils and also with leaders from the industry (always a very senior rep from CUNA, NAFCU, and NCUA). These two sessions are consistently the most popular on the agenda despite any outside speakers who may appear elsewhere on the program. I’ve observed the participants when addressing divisive issues, and as a result of such heated debates, perspectives become more clearly defined and an individual’s passion equates to taking action for his/her ideals which ultimately benefits the entire industry. In simple terms, it gets their “engines” revved up! I copied the article and sent it to the moderators and panelists for this year’s program. Thanks!! And keep up the good work!
