WESTBROOK, Me. – John Murphy, president of the Maine Credit Union League was elected board chair of the Maine Council on Economic Education. Murphy has served on the council's board for the past eight years The non-profit council, located on the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine, is the Maine component of the National Council on Economic Education. The Maine Credit Union League is one of the largest contributors to the council, and a number of Maine credit unions and their staff and volunteers acontribute to the financial literacy programs. On assuming the board chair, Murphy indicated that the council would continue its leadership role in assisting Maine school administrators and teachers to bring high quality curriculum and staff development programs to K-12 schools and children throughout Maine.
