CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Bank of America has committed $240,000 to Durham, North Carolina-based Latino Community Credit Union to help jumpstart its opening. Crime against Hispanics here is on the rise. With many Hispanics keeping their money in their pockets or at home, they are becoming easy targets. Bank of America will provide the Charlotte LCCU branch a $40,000 grant over two years and a $200,000 secondary market deposit that will count, for three years, toward the credit union's equity. Local Latino organizations are also pitching in and trying to secure a grant from the Foundation of the Carolinas for the new Charlotte branch. The credit union is scheduled to open as soon as it is staffed.
