CommunityAmerica Credit Union, Overland Park, Kan., has underwritten two $1,500 scholarships for the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation. The awards program, entitled “Celebrate Success! 2001″ recognizes two seniors who possess outstanding records of leadership and academic achievement. Alicia Stuart and Eric Yurkovich, both seniors at Shawnee Mission Northwest, are the first recipients of the scholarships. Stuart has been recognized for her strong academic record and leadership positions in many school activities including Drill Team, Spirit Club Executive Board, Marching Cougar Pride, Student Council, and Prom/Graduation Committees. Yurkovich has also been recognized for his academic record as a National Merit Commended Scholar and serving as class president while participating on the baseball, basketball, and soccer team. CommunityAmerica CU has $1 billion in assets and serves more than 113,000 members. Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., has named seven local organizations to receive its Youth Endowment Series program grants for 2001. The recipient agencies are: CASA of Colorado Springs, Inc.; Child Care Connection; Children’s Advocacy Center; Children’s Literacy Center; Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation’s “Leon’s Kids”; KIDPOWER of Colorado Springs; and Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition. Introduced in 2000, the YES program supports the efforts of organizations benefiting children in the Pikes Peak region. Twenty-eight local non-profit organizations submitted applications and information including how the funding would be used. Submissions were evaluated on their general benefit to the community, potential ability to leverage the Ent Federal grant to obtain additional funds, and degree of current community support. Ent Federal Credit Union serves 130,000 members and has more than $1.3 billion in assets. Brockton Credit Union, Mass., has awarded $1,000 scholarships to five local high schools: Brockton H.S., Oliver Ames H.S., Randolph H.S., Canton H.S. and Abington H.S. Scholarship recipients were then selected by the schools based on their academic achievement, moral character and enrollment at an accredited four-year college. This year’s award recipients include Abington High’s Kyle Shepherd; Brockton High’s Eugenia Alex; Oliver Ames High’s Talia Vestri and Joshua Parker; Canton High’s Daniel Berger; and Randolph High’s Kevin Wong. Affinity Federal Credit Union, Bedminster, N.J., has presented $10,000 in scholarship awards to seven graduating high school students. Applicants were selected based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities in both school and the community and an essay. Affinity FCU’s Scholarship Program has been designed to help promote scholastic excellence, continuing education and to recognize the efforts of graduating Affinity members. The Scholarship Program recipients include Matt DeTura who will be attending Duke University; Rob Stianchi who will be attending Rutgers University; Marc Olson who will be attending Seton Hall University; Zachary Surak who will be attending Princeton University; Garrett Young who will be attending Lehigh University; Wilfred Yeung who will be attending Harvard University; and Michael Sherry who will be attending Boston College. Affinity FCU has $800 million in assets and serves over 100,000 members. XCU Capital and Focus Insurance, a customized broker/dealer and insurance services provider, has awarded a total of $25,000 in scholarships during its sixth Annual Dollars for College Scholarship Program. Over three hundred applicants participated and fierce imagination, a high sense of commitment, and refreshing creativity were displayed in the essays and drawings. As a result, five finalists each received $2,000 scholarships and fifteen additional finalists were each awarded $1,000 scholarships. Each summer, the Dollars for College Scholarship Program is open to children and grandchildren of XCU Capital/Focus Insurance clients, Xerox Corp. employees, LCU Financial Services clients, AFCU Investment Services clients, Xerox Federal Credit Union members, and OfficeMax MaxFinancial members. In 2000, applicants under 10 years old were asked to provide drawings demonstrating “What I Want To Be When I Grow Up” while those members between the ages of 10 and 25 submitted essays on the topic “Saving for College.” ,
