I was disappointed in the tone of Elaine Kingoff's June 20 story regarding the Louisiana League's state PAC fine, "Louisiana league's PAC fined by state board of ethics for violations." What started out as a reporting of the facts seemed to metamorphose into an indictment of league management. Even my quotes, because of the context in which they were used, seem a slap at the league. I was quoted, "It's not just important to raise money but do it in the right way." It is difficult to raise dollars for political action committees. The vast majority of leagues are not only working to help CULAC grow but to increase the resources in their state PACs. Most, including the current management of the Louisiana League, spend a tremendous amount of time to make sure the league is complying with the state and federal laws, both of which are very complex and different from one another. I applaud the league's efforts to remedy this situation and make necessary changes to prevent it from happening in the future. Richard Gose Vice President Political Affairs CUNA Washington, D.C.
