OKLAHOMA CITY – WEOKIE Credit Union and Tulsa Federal Employees Credit Union have become the latest state-chartered credit unions in Oklahoma to be approved to convert to a community charter under the state's recently approved community charter rules. The State Credit Union Board at their June 5 meeting, unanimously approved the applications for both CUs. WEOKIE Credit Union will now serve all those who live, work, or worship in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Its name will remain unchanged. Tulsa Federal will serve those in the Tulsa MSA. The credit union's name will also remain the same. Oklahoma City and Tulsa MSAs are two of four "Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Areas" that are predefined in the rules used to administer Oklahoma's State Community Charter Legislation. The rules were adopted on May 11, 2001. Other predefined areas that a credit union may make an application to serve are the six geographical Rural Service Areas that have been designated by the Oklahoma Department of Community Development. Each of these areas are comprised of a group of contiguous counties that are outside the boundaries of the OMSA's. Oil Capital Community CU in Tulsa was the state's first state-chartered community charter under the new law.
