Thanks to the support of its credit union clients and others, business lending and services CUSO CU Business Group LLC said it was able to launch its Generosity Fund in 2013 to help a variety of charities.

The Portland, Ore.-based CUSO said it asked its employees what worthy causes they are involved with or care about and based on this, management set aside donations to those causes in each employee's name.

In all, CUBG said it donated $15,000 to more than 20 different charities.

Among them were Transitional Youth, which provides at-risk and homeless youth with opportunities and skills to achieve independent living and Compassion International, an organization that helps children from around the world to escape poverty.

CU Business Group said donations from its Generosity Fund also aided local groups including Zarepath (East Hill Church), which provides food, clothing and personal care items to the needy in the Gresham, Ore. area, and City Harvest Church, which supports 50 single mothers in Clark County, Wash., by providing education and other services.

In addition, part of the CUSO's donation went to the Raphael House of Portland to help local women and children in domestic violence situations.

The Portland American Indians Elders also received financial support from CUBG to help the local Native American community by providing food, shelter and clothing.

The CUSO said it also donated funds to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which provides access, treatment, and support for the mentally ill and their families and to the Central City Concern to help secure drug and alcohol treatment for those in the Portland area.
