Shawn Lee Nelson, former vice president of lending for the $519 million Members Choice Credit Union in Houston, faces a jury trial in Texas Federal Court in May over allegations that he embezzled more than $340,000 from three member accounts.

According to court documents, Nelson has pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of embezzlement. Federal prosecutors allege the fraud was discovered in 2011.

Federal prosecutors allege the former credit union executive used the funds to pay credit card debt, taxes and other personal expenses.

Nelson is free on $100,000 bond. His trial is scheduled for May 13.
