The $1.4 billion, 123,000-member CFE Federal Credit Union in Lake Mary, Fla., presented Orlando dentist Dr. Thomas Dorsey with its CFE Hero Award for 2012. CFE FCU created the award to give credit union members a chance to recognize community members they consider heroes based on the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.”
Dorsey founded the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association in 1991 and since then, in addition to helping children learn the game and valuable life lessons, has seen more than a dozen students receive golf scholarships that enabled them to go to college.
“I'm so pleased to see that Dr. Dorsey was selected to receive this award,” said James “Chief” Wilson, CFE Board member. “Dr. Dorsey was a student of mine at Jones High School and I am proud to have been his teacher, plus I am extremely proud of his philanthropic accomplishments.”
The CFE Hero Award comes with a $500 prize. Dorsey's entry was submitted by Edward C. Everett, who received a reward of $150 for his winning hero.
