When business lending and services CUSO CU Business Group LLC launched in 2002, it served just one credit union.

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary in August, the Portland, Ore.-based firm said it now works with 398 credit unions in 43 states providing lending, deposit and consulting services as well as products and technical support to credit unions with advanced business programs to those just starting out.

The CUSO said it now has a staff of 28 and offices in the West, Southwest and Eastern parts of the country.

“Most banks today are not interested in the average small business for business deposits or lending – they're looking for the bigger, more substantial company, which is why community lending is a real niche for credit unions,” said Larry Middleman, CUBG president/CEO.

CUBG recently held its annual business services conference in Portland with more than 150 attendees participating in the three-day event.
