Nearly 400,000 people attended the 9th annual Bethpage Air Show on Long Island's Jones Beach this past Memorial Day weekend, its sponsors said.
Highlights of the Saturday-Sunday event included the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels, Royal Canadian Snowbirds, U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor and United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, said Bethpage Federal Credit Union and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
“Almost 15% of Long Island's population chose the Bethpage Air Show as their Memorial Day holiday weekend destination and we look forward to continuing to work closely with New York State Parks to bring this irreplaceable and free event to Long Island for many years to come,” said Kirk Kordeleski, president/CEO of the $4.7 billion, 203,000-member Bethpage FCU.
Other events included two Facebook contests the credit union conducted for fans to meet performers at a planeside reception. The credit union also sponsored Bethpage show pilot and motivational speaker Ed Hamill's “Follow Your Dreams” presentation to underserved students from the Westbury and Uniondale school districts.
